Build and restore wooden boats while learning practical woodworking and mechanical skills connected to Great Lakes maritime traditions. This two-hour, hands-on class is for students ages 8+.
Elementary Mechanical Skills, or EMS, gives students ages 5 to 9 a fun introduction to tools, building, and how things work. Students make age-appropriate projects while practicing safe tool use, measuring, assembly, simple mechanics, and creative problem-solving.
Carving and Turning introduces students ages 12 and up to two traditional ways of shaping wood. They learn safe carving techniques and use a lathe to turn simple projects, starting with basic cuts and working toward more finished pieces. The class helps students build confidence, tool control, creativity, and a good feel for how wood behaves.

Chip carving is a traditional woodcarving method where one uses small knives to remove tiny, precise chips of wood from a flat surface to create intricate geometric or freeform patterns.
